Even
as a small child Elizabeth showed an aptitude for art. When she was
9 years old, her family moved to a remote location on Lake Havasu,
and for several years she was home-schooled. During this time her
parents enrolled her in private art lessons, and before she entered
her teens, she was already adept in oil painting.
During her high school years she won several local art contests,
including one for designing a logo for Lake Havasu City’s annual
London Bridge Days. The logo continues to be used by the community.
In high school she found employment with Lake Havasu City’s Park and
Recreation Program, where she worked with small children. A
natural with the youngsters, Elizabeth considered becoming an
elementary school teacher, and started down that path when she began
college.
Parents of the children she worked with began asking Elizabeth to
draw portraits of their children and pets, and to paint playroom
murals. Eventually she redirected her career goals, and transferred
to the San Diego Art Institute, where she graduated in July of 2006,
with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Graphic Design.
Before graduation she collaborated with her mother, Bobbi Holmes, on
the book entitled Motherhood. Elizabeth had the sole
responsibility of designing the publication, and creating the
illustrations for the collection of poems, that Elizabeth
herself, along with her brother, Scott, had inspired her mother to
write.
Today Elizabeth is a professional graphic artist in Sacramento,
California, and continues to do freelance design work. Her
website is www.designsbyb.net.
Teddy and Snowman are two
of the
illustrations included in Motherhood.
